Ancient Igbo Names Of God

Ancient Igbo Names for the Supreme god or Almighty god.

Today I will be teaching about the Ancient Igbo Names for the Supreme god or Almighty god.

1. Ya or Yah

2. Ose

3. O’rie

4. Chi

First we must understand that Igbo is the first Language on Earth and every other language took its origin from Igbo.

The Ancient Igbo Language which was spoken universally for the first 100,000 years of modern human existence being the first people that lived the earth alone is different from the current Igbo language we speak today. Ethnolinguistic archaeology has proven that.

Ya:

The name Ya or Yah which you find in compound words in the Bible is originally Igbo and it’s one of the names for supreme god. This is because the Bible was originally Igbo which the Romans mistransliterated, mistranslated and vowelized the Igbo consonants in the Ancient Bible to give them the names in the Roman Bible.

Examples of Igbo compound words with Ya are but not limited to the following:

A. Ya - gozie (meaning god bless)

B. Ya-gazie (meaning god go before)

C. Amara- Ya (meaning the mercy of god

D. Ihuna- Ya (meaning to see things from god’s perspective)

E. Ya-mere (meaning god did it)

F. I’mele-Ya (meaning you have done it in god’s way)

G. I’kwete or i’kwere na Ya (meaning agreed in god).

H. When we say Igbo kwenu, the response is Ya (meaning Igbo agree in god.)

The name Ya-shi-uwa or Ya-si-osa (meaning the god from the world or god from the masses) is the original Igbo name given to the Man the Romans called Yehoshua and later Yasus. Yesus and then later called Jesus when Letter “J” was introduced to humanity in 1524 AD by an Italian called Gian Grigio Trissino.

The people of Owe Eri meaning Leader of time immemorial  (Owerri) gave birth to Ya shi uwa or Mmanu Elu meaning Man from Above (mistransliterated as Emmanuel by the Romans). Yes Jesus Christ is an Igbo man from Ama Owem (meaning the compound of my Leader) which is today called Amawom in Owerri.

The leader was the person Owerri people called Di vu Edo (meaning the man fair in complexion) which Romans mistransliterated as King David in their Bible. He’s from Ama Owem (Amawom).

Owerri is the Ancient Jerusalem. In the Ancient time it was called Iyi Eru salem (meaning Evil don’t touch me). Yoruba called the city Ilu Yerusalemi. We have the Ancient Map of the city of Iyi Eru salem (Ancient Jerusalem). You won’t find letter “J” on the Ancient map because there was no Letter “J” until 1524 AD.

Iyi means Evil in Ancient Igbo language.

It’s important to note that Igbo originally don’t do anything outside the supreme god hence everything we did revolved around Ya in the Ancient time.

Ose:

Ose is another ancient name for god still used by some  Igbo dialects to this day. This is where the Bini people got their Ose lo bu uwa from meaning god that carries world. While in some part of Igbo it’s used as short form of Olise or Oliseh

Orie:

This is another Ancient name for the supreme god. For example the River in Owe Eri (Owerri) believed to be the River Ya shi uwa or Mmanu Elu used during his gospel on earth is till date called River Nwaorie (meaning the River of the son of god).

Chi:

Chi is the popular name for god in Igbo land.

The supreme god is called Chi-ukwu but because the Europeans couldn’t pronounce it correctly, the shortened it to Chukwu.

It’s important to note that in Igbo land it’s believed that every one has his or her Chi and it’s this Chi which is spirit or Mmuo in Igbo language that is referred to as Deity. The various Chi or deities pay respect to Chi-ukwu — the almighty god.

Now let me talk about Ekwensu:

Ekwensu is an Igbo deity for war, commerce and trade. Suffice to say it’s the Igbo god for War, who in the Ancient time would lead Igbo to war and back.

Ekwensu is also a spirit or igbo chi responsible for trade and commerce, which empowered Ndigbo spiritually to excel in Trade and Commerce. He has a trickster spirit which explains why Igbos are very good at haggling during trading. Every Igbo has the spirit of Ekwensu in him or her hence we are successful in trade and commerce.

China, Japan and India have their own version of Ekwensu.

The Japanese god of War is called Bishamonten (also known as Tamonten) is the deity of warriors and a protector against evil.

The Japanese god of Commerce & Trade is called Ebisu. It’s the patron of honest labor and wealth in business.
